Application notes
The K-MD7 is an evolution of the successful K-LD7 with a narrower 34 x 30 degree antenna beam and enhanced processing power. This optimized beam pattern allows for improved focus and higher detection precision, resulting in extended detection distances of up to 300 meters and accurate tracking of up to 8 individual moving objects simultaneously. Whether vehicles or pedestrians – the sensor reliably measures speed, direction, distance, and angle in real-time.
The K-MD7 is ideal for applications such as speed displays, simple traffic counting systems, or smart city infrastructure. With a maximum speed detection capability of 200 km/h and typical detection ranges of 50 m for persons and up to 150 m for cars, it offers flexible integration into various traffic monitoring scenarios. Thanks to its integrated pulsed FSK signal processing, the radar sensor ensures low power consumption – making it well-suited for battery-powered or solar-powered deployments.
The data output via serial UART interface provides a clear target list with all relevant object parameters. In addition, the detection settings can be digitally configured to match specific environmental requirements or project needs. Developers benefit from an integrated bootloader for seamless firmware updates, ensuring long-term adaptability and reliability.
With compact dimensions of just 70 x 32 x 13.5 mm, the K-MD7 fits easily into limited installation spaces. The wide operating voltage range of 3.2 to 5.5V offers further integration flexibility. Importantly, there is no need to develop custom signal processing algorithms, as the K-MD7 handles even weak or noisy signals internally – simplifying development and reducing time to market.
For rapid development and testing, the K-MD7-EVAL evaluation kit is available, including PC software for live signal visualization and data analysis.
