EAGLE EYE ZHAGA with K-LD2 from RFbeam

The Eagle Eye Zhaga Motion Detection Light Controller is designed for luminaires and utilizes the advantages of the digital motion detector K-LD2 from RFbeam Microwave.

The sensor detects pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles using the advanced digital signal processing functions of the K-LD2. Commissioned in a network of several sensor, the system provides light-ahead functionality, lighting up the path, street or road ahead. The product has an adjustable sensor housing, making it possible to fine-tune the detection area for every use-case.

Comlight provides robust motion detection in all weather conditions. Wireless communication links between the controllers light up the road ahead of road users as they approach and provides them with full illumination. After a predefined time, the brightness is adjusted down again.

Detection Capabilities

Why was the K-LD2 from RFbeam chosen?

Previously Comlight used radars from another manufacturer than RFbeam. These radars had some limitations and some recurring obstacles that needed to be handled.

So we set out to find a new radar that could solve our needs, that were:

  • One frequency accepted for use all over the world
  • System to avoid jamming between radars
  • System to avoid interference of internal communication of the 868,35 MHz radio
  • Filtering of movement from environment and weather
  • Being able to differentiate speed of the movement
  • Detection range and area according to needs

RFbeam replied to our needs by solutions for avoiding interference and jamming.

Together with other practical test regarding our needs for distances and speed category, we found that the radar that suited our needs were the K-LD2 variant.

Video Comlight Motion Detection Light Control

The Comlight Eagle Eye Zhaga Motion Detection Light Controller in action in regional road FV51 between Tengs and Bjerkreim in Norway in September 2020. This is a 13 km road with 275 light controllers on Signify luminaries. 5 lights ahead are being lit up as vehicles are passing below the sensors. Hold time is 10 seconds. This saves energy, saves the environment and provides full light when and where needed!
